Resistance is futile. You will assimilate and become part of the Borg collective. Technology is developing faster than humans can keep up with — but this is a good thing, right? Maybe not. The latest prediction for the future, is the merging of human flesh with machines.
Billionaire Elon Musk has declared that humans “must merge with machines, or risk becoming irrelevant,” in what he prophecies as the coming “AI age.”
Musk goes so far as to suggest that this coming age of artificial intelligence threatens to make mankind obsolete and his proposed solution is that we must fuse humans and machines, turning us into a sort of cyborg.
Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is known for his love of technology and futuristic ideas, but his comments have stirred fear and revulsion in many.
“Over time I think we will probably see a closer merger of biological intelligence and digital intelligence. It’s mostly about the bandwidth, the speed of the connection between your brain and the digital version of yourself, particularly output.” – Elon Musk
The billionaire says that while computers can communicate at “a trillion bits per second,” we humans have to rely on typing with our fingers at a mere 10 bits per second as our main communication method (I guess he forgets we can talk).
“Some high bandwidth interface to the brain will be something that helps achieve a symbiosis between human and machine intelligence and maybe solves the control problem and the usefulness problem,” Musk explained.
This isn’t the first time Musk has spoken about the need for humans to ‘evolve,’ if one can call integrating chips and processors into our bodies, ‘evolving.’ Musk’s “solution” seems to stem from his fear that AI is rapidly evolving and will soon become “smarter than the smartest human on earth” and called it a “dangerous situation.”
What does this have to do with positivity?
Technology has improved our world and lives on many levels. But technology is rapidly becoming a beast that is enslaving mankind. Millions, if not billions of humans, are now living life through a smart device — no longer truly experiencing life, we’re now merely observe it online. AI isn’t a threat to mankind unless we allow it to be — no matter how ‘intelligent’ a machine is, it cannot create life as we know it and that is just a fact.
Fusing a computer chip into our bodies is not the answer — returning to a simpler, more meaningful way of life is. Live happy, live positively, live strong and most of all…just live life the way it was meant to be.
