It’s Wrong to Use God to Justify Our Bad Behavior

June 29, 2020 by Patrick S.

https://www.facebook.com/Positivity-Post-850385048367345/These citizens recently spoke at a Palm Beach county Commission meeting. The catalyst for the meeting is the alarming and significant increase in Covid-19 infections. Below the video are the salient excerpts from the clip, along with some commentary.

The video clip is courtesy of Now This via Facebook. Make sure you have your volume up:

I don’t know about you, but I find the rationale of these citizens to be very disturbing and especially the ones that invoke God. Let’s take a look at some of their comments…

“And they want to throw God’s wonderful breathing system out the door. You’re all turning your backs on it.”

So using this logic, I imagine that this person would find wearing Scuba gear to go below water to be an affront to God? Does this person also believe that wearing glasses is violating God’s will?

“In the beginning, God formed man out of the earth and breathed His breath in him and he became a living soul. Where do you derive the authority to regulate human breathing? What you say is the political dogma that they’re throwing down our throats on every commercial, in every store and its disgusting!”

Derive the right to regulate human breathing? Wearing a mask isn’t regulating breathing, its meant to control a highly contagious and dangerous pandemic.

“Every single one of you that are obeying the devil’s laws are going to be arrested. And you, Doctor, are going to be arrested for crimes against humanity! We will get together and do a citizen’s arrest on every single human being that goes against the freedom of choice. Okay? You cannot mandate — you literally cannot mandate somebody to wear a mask, knowing that that mask is killing people. It literally is killing people.” Every single one of you, have a smirk behind that little mask, but every single one of you are going to get punished by God. You cannot — you cannot escape God. You cannot escape God. Imma say that again…you cannot escape God! Not even with the mask or 6 feet. Okay? 6 feet, like I said before, is military protocol. You’re trying to get the people to train them, so when the camera’s, the 5G comes out… what? They’re gonna — they’re gonna scan everybody?  We gotta get scanned, we gotta get temperatured? The kids have to go to school with masks? Are you insane!? Are you crazy? I think all of you should be in a psych ward right the heck now.”

This person really worries me, because not only does a deep paranoia run through her words, but she seems to believe she is the word of God in the flesh — that she and she alone hears and understands God’s will. As for crimes against humanity, any clear thinker would argue that the crime against humanity, is putting other people’s lives at risk, simply because you just don’t feel like wearing a mask.

“Let me ask y’all, do you believe in God? Do you believe you can override God’s divine plan for our lives? You’re removing our freedoms and stomping on our constitutional rights by these communist dictatorship orders or laws you want to mandate.”

I guess this person knows God’s divine plan for our lives? I think not, since God’s divine plan for our lives most assuredly does not mean making other people sick or people dying from a virus.

“You did not listen to the people! I would die for that country! I would die for the constitution! And you know what?! You disgrace me! You know why!? Because you did not listen to we the people! You made your decision!”

This gentleman considers himself a patriot. As such, he should know that in wartime, many of our “rights” are temporarily suspended or modified…that was certainly the case in WW II. He says he would die for the constitution. I assume he has read the document…but must have forgotten what it says.

“And I say Trump 2o20! And I hope everyone of you gets voted out, who votes for a mask here today! Shame on you for voting for a mask!

Shame on you for voting for a mask?  It’s just a mask. Its not some implement of torture. Its not a permanent mark or implant. Its not a forever thing…its just a mask and we only have to wear them until we get things under control…thats it. Nothing more.

“Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” — Luke 20:25

“For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified.” — Romans 2:13

The most worrying thing for me, are the ones that are falsely claiming that wearing a mask, or, being told to wear one, is a violation of God’s laws. It most certainly is not.

“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.” — 2 Timothy 4:3-4

We need to be mindful not to use the Word of God to bolster our own prejudices or biases. We cannot cherry pick those Bible passages that we want to arrogantly use to make our point, especially if our point or argument is false. The reason why this is so dangerous, is because when we do that, we almost always then ignore the rest of God’s will for us.

“I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive. For your obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, but I want you to be wise as to what is good and innocent as to what is evil. The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.”  — Romans 16:17-20

Whether we be Christian, Jewish, Muslim or any faith, we should always be kind and concerned with the health and well-being of our fellow man. In Christianity, we are taught to be kind and tenderhearted and this is of particular importance today. The pandemic has caused so much sadness and stress that everyone is suffering in some form — ought we not then pull together and do our bit to help in any way we can? Is wearing a mask and keeping some distance really that big of a sacrifice? Of course its not.
