I know some very good Christians who are almost fearful that God will somehow try to trick them or that He’s not telling them the whole truth. I know it sounds odd, but that is how they think. They’re wrong.
The Bible tells us that God will not deceive us. We are His children and He loves us. God is above all things wrong and wicked. God has no reason to deceive us and thus, He will not try to throw some trick at us to see what we’ll do. In Numbers 23:19 we are told: “God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should repent.” Its clear that God does not and will not tell a lie.”
However, the other guy, will lie and he does it all the time and with such smoothness, he deceives people into believing he is telling the truth and everyone else is lying. The devil will work tirelessly to deceive and he could not care less about the damage he causes. He could not care less.
I feel it deeply that right now, we are seeing all of this unfold. That what is good is being called evil and what is evil, is being called good. Up is down, right is wrong, wrong is right…everything is upended. Some believe God is doing this, but its not God — we are allowing it to happen because man, particularly many Christians, have been led astray.
God has put into all of our hearts right from wrong. We all know what is good and what is evil, yet lately, we seem to have gotten it reversed. Too many Christians rage against kindness and gratitude. Too many Christians are petty and mean and they take what ever they can get, not matter who they hurt. They are becoming greedy and cold as they harden their hearts against others. Its scary that it is unfolding in real time and alarming that the ones who are deceived, are telling everyone else that they are wrong…that they are sinners. They judge and rage and at times, a lot of us just want to yell “snap out of it…you’re doing down the wrong path!”
A friend shared a quote with me that is profound and I’m happy to share it with our readers:
“The devil is not fighting religions. He’s too smart for that. He’s producing a counterfeit Christianity, so much like the real one that good Christians are afraid to speak out against it.” – Dr. Havner
Dr. Hanver was absolutely correct. The devil has manipulated us and turned us against each other. He has made some greedy, others cruel and yet others violent. He has lied and caused chaos and we humans, despite knowing God’s will and despite knowing right from wrong, fell for it. And not only did many fall for it, but they arrogantly brag how pious and Godly they are…when the rest of the world sees them for what they have become.
There is a sense of urgency these days and Christians must be particularly vigilant. If we pay close attention, we notice that the deceivers and evil-doers aren’t even trying to hide their deeds anymore — their greed, corruption, arrogance and cold-heartedness is spilling out and they could not care less. We all need to be careful not to fall for the lies of false prophets and dubious politicians and religious “leaders.” God won’t deceive us, but men will and no matter how much you may want to believe their words, the truth is in your heart — its that truth that we ignore at our peril.
“May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ.” – 2 Thessalonians 3:5:
“The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” – Romans 8:15-16
