Some Christians have elevated themselves and believe that God needs our help and that somehow, our Almighty Creator is reliant upon us. This of course is not true and its the other way around. The expression “good intentions” comes to mind on this matter.
Increasingly, a certain segment of the Christian population has elevated themselves to a high level, speaking and acting as if they are not God’s children, but God’s protector; that is a toxic, arrogant position to take. God is Almighty — He is the beginning and the end. God is supreme on all levels. God doesn’t need our help…we need His!
In addition to some Christians being quite misguided, despite possibly having good intentions, acting as if they are God’s spokesperson and protectors, we are seeing a rise in those same Christians claiming that “God has been sSideline.” How can God, who is the beginning and the end, the creator of all the universe, ever be sidelined? The answer is, He cannot…unless the individual Christian consciously chooses to separate themselves from God and even then, that is in not sidelining the Almighty. In a friend’s recent social media post, another friend said that “God was sidelined,” but she seemed to get it right, explaining that due to various reasons, many Christians in the U.S seemed to become too busy for God — I believe that’s what she meant by “sidelined.” In this case, if she or her family had less time for God, then in truth, they themselves were seemingly “sidelining” not so much God, but the practice of their faith.
God is everywhere. He is not in a Ten Commandments plaque or in a Christmas decoration. God is very much real and He is found in our hearts and we are the temple. The Kingdom of God is quite literally within us and no one can remove Him, unless an individual chooses to ignore the Word of God. So while I understand what she was trying to say, its important that we realize that God is always with us…always. He is supreme and we are His children. We serve God and not the other way around. Anyone who twists the Word of God or hijacks it to try and increase their own power, is committing a very grave sin.
Trust God. Have full and complete faith in Him and in our Savior Jesus Christ. Open your heart and let the love, peace and joy of God’s love and protection come into you.
Christians are called up to spread the Gospel — the very definition of Gospel is: “good news.” Rather than ignoring the Will of God and acting with hubris, we should be spreading the joy and good news — spreading love, peace, understanding, compassion, generosity and the pure love of salvation through Jesus Christ. Today, I pray that Christians stop mourning their faith and instead, celebrate it by sharing the joy and welcoming love that is the very tenet of the Christian faith.
