I’m baffled by people who say “we need to keep Christ in Christmas!” — as they put out 8 Santa statues, but none of the Nativity. These same people become apoplectic if the Ten Commandments plaque is removed from a public place.
A good friend recently lamented that we have become a celebrity obsessed culture that elevates people to a faux sainthood, often less for the good they do and more because of the bad things they do. And he really does have a good point.
Life can be a great adventure filled with marvels and wondrous experiences. That life however, is one that requires active participation – life is what we make of it after all, so why not make it the best it can be?
Surrendering our will doesn’t always come easy to man. We struggle with just saying “I don’t know” and letting someone else guide and direct us. But sometimes, that is exactly what we need to do.
At some point, most of us pause to self-reflect on where we are on this journey called life. We ask ourselves if we’re happy, if we’re successful, if we are a good person…or a bad one, and if we even matter in this world.
I worry that too often, we Christians go off track and forget that earthly “things” are not supposed to be our focus. Its easy to get caught up in the trappings of our physical world and occasionally lose sight of our true mission.
When did we become a celebrity, fame obsessed culture? At what point did we stop caring about the important things and replace it with an unhealthy obsession with the things that have little or no value?
Its a terrible thing for someone to feel unloved or as if they don’t matter or aren’t cared for by anyone. In our manic world, more and more people are feeling left out and unloved, even though nothing could be further from the truth.
The new year is dawning upon us once again and with it, comes fresh and exciting opportunities. Where does the time go? It goes by fast, so this is yet another chance for us to get it right.
