You’ve probably heard the expression “you are a beacon of light,” but I wonder if we give that compliment the thought it deserves. In essence, when someone tells us we’re a beacon of light, they’re telling us that we’ve done something good and often, we really are radiating a literal light. We can’t just call the Uvalde School massacre a “tragedy. The word tragedy isn’t strong enough — it just isn’t. What happened in Uvalde is horrific…an unimaginable monstrous event of sheer terror. The devastation that happened on that day, has forever changed the lives of those touched by the sickening event.
Whenever we get a chance to make a positive difference, we should seize it. Doing good and being a positive influence in this world is never wasted, even if that good deed or that act of kindness is a small one — every bit of good we can do is valued beyond measure.
Easter is the most joyous day in the Christian faith. On this day of miracles, Jesus rose from the dead and in doing so, the entire world can have salvation. I wonder if we’re guilty of sometimes forgetting what an incredible sacrifice Christ made for mankind?
I think a lot of people are a bit intimidated by reading the Bible. A lot of passages can be confusing or unclear to us and sadly, many people have intentionally twisted the words of the Bible to prop up their own agenda. This causes some to avoid reading the Bible.
Most of us are acutely aware of the old expression “a Wolf in Sheep’s clothing.” The gist of that adage is that there are those among us who will seem like Sheep, but inwardly, are actually ravenous and dangerous Wolves. The Bible covers this caution in significant detail.
In the movie Wall Street, Michael Douglas’s character makes a speech in which he says “greed is good…greed works.” His premise being that he is greedy and that it’s okay to be greedy for more…more money, power and fame. Of course, he is categorically incorrect, as most of us already know.
Christmas is truly a magical time of the year. As we celebrate the birth of Christ, our hearts are filled with joy, peace and harmony. During this time, we are kinder, gentler, more generous and something miraculous happens to us. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could carry that spirit of Christmas through the whole year?
Have you ever had someone give you a nasty or judgemental look — you know the type of look I mean — that condescending, snide look that makes your face flush with embarrassment? If you’ve never experienced that kind of contemptible attitude, you’re lucky, because most of us experience it at one time or another.
